Ukraine: Crimea increased spring crops sowing areas by 5.3% - 20.06.2010

As of June 1, 2010, agricultural enterprises of all categories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea sowed spring crops (taking into account resowing of perished winter crops) throughout the areas of 249 thsd ha, an increase of 5.3% (12.5 thsd ha) compared to the same date of the previous year, declared the Main department of statistics of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea.

Syngenta Canada and renowned wireworm experts, Bob Vernon and Wim van Herk (Agriculture and Agri-food Canada), have come together to survey and document the different species and distribution of wireworms here in Canada.
Holding back the sand - 20.06.2010

FAO marks World Day to Combat Desertification today with the publication of a manual that shows how a project in Mauritania successfully fixed dunes and stopped sand encroachment. It will serve as a useful blueprint for similar projects in Africa. Sand encroachment is what happens when grains of sand are carried by winds and collect in dunes on the coast, along watercourses and on cultivated or uncultivated land.
Ukraine: Ministry of Agrarian Policy offers to reform the Agrarian Fund and Ukragroleasing - 20.06.2010

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy offers to reform the Agrarian Fund and the National Joint Stocks Company “Ukrainian Agrarian Leasing” (Ukragroleasing) into the Agrarian Financial Fund (Agrofinfund) and the Agrarian Financial Leasing (Agrofinleasing), respectively, and give them the functions of the crediting instrument of agrarian companies.
Grain production to total 46-47 mln tonnes in 2010 - 03.06.2010

In 2010, the general production of grains in Ukraine will approximately total nearly 46-47 mln tonnes, declared Nikolay Prysiaghniuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy.

According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, in 2010, Ukraine will harvest nearly 48 mln tonnes of grains as opposed to 46 mln tonnes in 2009, declared Sergey Melnik, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, during the international conference "Grain Forum & Grain Industry – 2010".
Ukraine. Kherson seaport expects to finish building grain terminal in december - 14.05.2010

The Kherson maritime merchandise state owned port expects to complete the construction of a grain terminal with a storage capacity of 24,000 tonnes in December 2010. The port terminal would be built in two stages. The total area of the grain-handling complex would be 0.52 hectares. The cost of the project is UAH 31.3 million. The port finances the construction from it own funds.
Nikolayev sea port offers Belgian companies to participate into creation of a lighter terminal - 14.05.2010

In the framework of international cooperation of Mykolayiv region and the Province of East Flanders (Belgium) Nikolayev Commercial Sea Port will offer the Belgian side project of Lighter marine terminal in the Bug-Dnieper basin.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine initiated Ukraine’s accession to the Grain Trade Convention by submitting an appropriate draft law (#0166 of April 29, 2010) to the Parliament.

Ukraine decreased grain share by 2.4% in the general commodity exports - 14.05.2010

In the first quarter of 2010, commodity exports from Ukraine totaled 10.33 bln USD, imports – 11.8 bln USD, which formed the growth of export indices by 24.6%, and imports – by 20.7% compared to the first quarter of 2009 respectively.
