Ukraine exports 4.4 million tons of grain – 31.10.2011

The Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry estimated the volume of grain exported from Ukraine as of October 27 at 4.4 million tons since the beginning of the 2011/2012 marketing season (July 2011 through June 2012).

The head of the ministry's department for agriculture, Oleksandr Demydov, said that Ukraine had exported 1.699 million tons of wheat, 1.822 million tons of barley, 847,000 tons of corn, and 684,000 tons of oil-bearing crops.

Since early October, Ukraine exported 1.13 million tons of grain.

Demydov said that the current pace of grain exports was about 70,000 tons per day, while at the beginning of the season it stood at to 10,000-20,000 tons per day.

The ministry hopes that in the near future monthly exports of grain will reach 2.5-3 million tons, or about 100,000 tons per day. Thus, during the marketing season, the country will manage to supply 23-25 million tons of grain to foreign markets.

As reported, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry and grain traders will jointly determine the amount of grain crops to be exported in the 2011/2012 marketing year.

According to the preliminary balance, export volumes were distributed as follows: wheat - 10.5 million tons (a yield of 22 million tons), rye - 40,000 tons (567,000 tons), barley - 3.5 million tons (9 million tons), corn - 10.5 million tons (17.5 million tons), buckwheat - 43,000 tons (283,000 tons), millet - 82,000 tons (253,000 tons), and other grain crops - 106,000 tons (647,000 tons).
