Ukraine. Agriculture Ministry: 89% of winter crops in good, satisfactory condition as of June 24 – 29.06.2010

Winter grain crops in Ukraine were in a good condition on an area of almost 3.7 million hectares as of June 24, 2010, or 47% of the area under crops, while 3.27 million hectares sown with winter crops, or 41.5%, were in a satisfactory condition, according to a statement posted on the website of the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry.

Winter grain crops on 676,000 hectares, or 7.9% of the sowing area, have died. In addition, winter crops on 909,000 hectares (11.5%) were weak and thinned.

Winter wheat was in a good condition on nearly 2.93 million hectares, or 47.9% of the sowing area, in a satisfactory condition on 2.45 million hectares (40.1%), and weak and thinned on 730,000 hectares (11.9%). Barley was in a good condition on 621,000 hectares (42.4% of the sowing area), and in a satisfactory condition on 690,000 hectares (47.1%).

Some 39.2% of the area sown with winter rape (344,000 hectares) was in a good condition, 45.4% (398,000 hectares) in a satisfactory condition, and 15.4% (135,000 hectares) weak and thinned. Winter rape on 539,000 hectares, or 38.1% of the sowing area, has died.
