Ukraine lowered sunflower seed exports – 24.03.2010

Exporters of Ukraine essentially reduced sunflower seed export volumes due to the problems with repayment of the value added tax, declared Stepan Kapshuk, the General Director of the association Ukrolyaprom.

According to him, last marketing year, Ukraine exported 767 thsd tonnes of sunflower seed, but during 6 months of the current year – 67 thsd tonnes only.

In February 2010, Ukrainian traders exported 4.2 thsd tonnes of sunflower seed as opposed to 149 thsd tonnes in the same month of the last MY, explained S.Kapshuk.

According to the expert, the fall of export volumes will not cause the fundamental fall of purchasing prices for the raw material, due to the current growth of sunflower seed processing capacities in the country, and the further increase of sunflower oil production volumes.

The present processing capacities of sunflower seed in Ukraine total 8.7 mln tonnes, and sunflower seed harvest – 6.3 mln tonnes. According to S.Kapshuk, oilseed producers show high competition in the sphere of sunflower purchases.
