Ukraine ports’ volumes up 4.1%, at 16.82 million tons in January-February – 10.03.2010

Cargo turnover at the seaports of Ukraine in January-February 2010 reached 16.82 million tons, 4.1% up from the two months in 2009, UkrRudProm reports citing the country’s State Administration of Maritime and River Transport.
 
In particular, the Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP) in January-February 2010 reduced freight volumes by 2.7%, to 4.493 million tons. Illichivsk Port handled 3.061 million tons (a 17.9% rise), Yuzhny Port showed a 4.7% increase, at 3 million tons. Port of Mariupol gained 24.4%, 1.424 million tons of cargo.
 
In 2009 the Ukraine’s seaports saw a 17% reduction of freight traffic, as compared with 2008, to 109.72 million tons. There are currently 18 state-owned seaport operating in Ukraine.
