Yuzhny Port posts a 4.7% volume rise for Jan.-Feb., at 3m tons – 10.03.2010

Cargo shipments through Commercial Sea Port of Yuzhny (Odessa region, Ukraine) in January-February 2010 rose by 4.7 percent as compared with Jan.-Feb. of 2009, to 3 million tons. Handled commodities totaled 2.221.200 tons, up 1.7% over the same period last year. In January-February the port loaded, off-loaded 137 vessels and 23.320.000 gondola cars, the Yuzhny port’s statement said.
 
In February 2010 the cargo turnover at the port amounted to 1.449. 200 tons, a 4% rise over February, 2009. Handled volumes reached 1.049.400 tons. In February the port handled 70 ships and 10.735 gondola cars.
 
Port of Yuzhny (South) located in the area Adzhaliksky estuary was founded in 1978. It is one of the most deep-water ports on the Black Sea, 150.000 dwt ships can enter the harborage. The Port of Yuzhny transships major export and transit freight flows. It handles bulk, coal and ore, general, chemical and liquid bulk cargoes. In 2009, the port handled 17.083.000 tons of cargoes. The total cargo turnover of all operators based in the harborage of Adzhalyksky estuary was at 37.879.000 tons.
